What this quote is trying to say is that it is better to be alone and doing what's right for yourself than having to be with a group of people who have done many wrong choices and drag you into it. For example, if your friends decide to go out and buy drinks and they invite you to go drink with them say no. Choose to do the right thing for yourself and leave them doing the wrong choices. Or try to change their minds about it and do the good thing for them also. Another example would be if you do your assignments. You chose to do the right thing. So means you're with the right type of crowd who encourages you to do what's best for yourself and your grades. Choose what is best for you as long as you're choosing to do the right things.
